I don’t know about you but we’re itching for the weekend to begin. We’ve combed the Holy City for the best weekend events and here is what we found.

Friday, April 20

For the second time since its debut in 2015, Ballet Academy of Charleston is performing their original adaptation of “Alice in Wonderland” for their annual spring concert. The performance takes place at 7 p.m. at the Sottile Theatre, 44 George St. Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for kids and kids 6 and younger are free. This version features the score by Carl Davies and choreography by some of our very own teachers which is both engaging and age appropriate. Don’t miss the vibrant sets and costumes. ballet-academy.org

Saturday, April 21

Get outside and burn some energy with the fam at the Earth Day 5K. Enjoy a morning on the refreshing and winding paths nestled in the beautiful 314 acres oasis, lush maritime forest, beach and undisturbed salt marsh of St. Christopher. By running or sponsoring the 5K run/hike, you will be helping to fund the Barrier Island Local Outreach Program, a program which helps to educate future generations on the environment. Another excellent performance takes place on Saturday. Don’t miss Billy, Goat, Gruff the Musical. A magical retelling of a beloved Norwegian folktale that tells the musical tale of three goat brothers: Billy, Goat and Gruff, who go on an adventure to search for food before the harsh winter snow descends upon their mountain. As they journey, they encounter many dangers, escape a nasty troll and discover that if they follow their hearts, anything is possible. How better to celebrate the outdoors than with the  Charleston Outdoor Fest? This 28th annual event celebrates the paddlesports and outdoor recreation community. Featuring one of the country’s premier showcases of canoeing, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding (SUP), Charleston Outdoor Fest also includes a multitude of outdoor recreation activities like mountain biking, slack lining, archery, climbing and disc golf. The event runs from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. April 21 and 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. April 22 at James Island County Park. ccprc.com

Sunday, April 22

The Alston Wilkes Society is throwing their annual Lowcountry Blues Bash at Bowens Island. Guests can enjoy their oysters and a silent auction while raising funds to provide uniforms, job readiness training and more for community members looking to rebuild their lives.
