Family Fun: Weekend Events Dec. 15-Dec. 17


The countdown to Christmas is on and Hanukkah has already begun. Here are some fantastic family-friendly events to celebrate the season.

Friday, Dec. 15

Who doesn’t love a puppet show? The Puppet Playhouse is sure to get you in the festive flow with their Holiday Puppet Sing-A-Long at the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department, 391 Egypt Road, Mount Pleasant from 10-11 a.m. Tickets are $3 and reservations are required. Call 843-849-2061.

Saturday, Dec. 16

Add a little funk to your holidays at the Park Circle Holiday (Totally) Bizarre this Saturday from 12-6 p.m. All of your favorite Park Circle retail spots are joining forces for a raffle, sales and of course, an element of the Bizarre.

Sunday, Dec. 17

Hanukkah started Tuesday and what better way to celebrate than Chanukah in the Square, a free, festive party for everyone, featuring music, dancing and the lighting of the 9-foot Menorah by Charleston’s Holocaust survivors. Enjoy crafts and treats, including latkes and other traditional Chanukah foods. The event runs from 4-6 p.m. in Marion Square, downtown Charleston.

Enjoy festive fun for the whole family, especially the youngest fans at the Charleston Symphony Orchestra Family Holiday Pops Concert. Principal Pops Conductor, Yuriy Bekker, leads this family-friendly holiday tradition that will feature “White Christmas,” “Let It Go,” “12 Days of Christmas” (CSO-style), Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” and many more sing-along favorites. The Charleston Children’s Chorus joins the show, as well as special surprise appearances. Charleston Southern University Lightsey Chapel, 9200 University Blvd., North Charleston 4-5:10 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $12.50 for children/students ages 18-3, 2 and younger attend for free if seated on a parent’s lap.
