If you’re in town for the holidays and looking for ways to occupy the whole family, here are our favorite family-friendly activities coming up this weekend.

Friday, Dec. 22

What better way to celebrate Christmas than with the quirky holiday classic “A Christmas Story”? The festive tale chronicles young and bespectacled Ralphie Parker as he schemes his way toward the holiday gift of his dreams, an official Red Ryder Carbine-Action 200-Shot Range Model Air Rifle. Showtimes all weekend at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 22; 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 23; 1 p.m. Dec. 24 at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center, 5001 Coliseum Drive, North Charleston. Tickets are $37-$67.

If you’re more interested in being transported to another world full of goblins and dancing snowflakes, check out the Snow Queen at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 22; 7:30 p.m. Dec. 23 at Sottile Theatre, 44 George St., Charleston. An amazing cast of characters are joined by over 50 hand-picked young artists from the Charleston dance community for a holiday performance for the whole family. Tickets are $18-$52.

Saturday, Dec. 23

As Christmas Eve draws near, don’t miss the The Night Before Christmas – A Classical Kids Concert. Sing along to favorite holiday songs and listen as well-loved stories come to life with classical music. Musicians of Chamber Music Charleston perform a variety of holiday music as actors retell classic Christmas tales such as “Snowman at Christmas” and “The Night Before Christmas.” Starts at 1 p.m. at Sottile Theatre, 44 George St., Charleston. Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 children 4-16 and free for children 3 and under.

Christmas Eve
