Friday, July 27
On both Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28, the Charleston Friends of the Library will host a book sale for the Charleston County Libraries at Johns Island Regional Library. Admission is free. More than 10,000 books, DVDs and CDs will be available with prices starting at $1 for paperbacks and $3 for hardback books. Items include mysteries, romances, classics, local histories, cookbooks and a variety of non-fiction topics. Children’s books start at just $0.50 each.
Saturday, July 28
Presented in conjunction with Palmetto Tribe, the first Youth Triathlon race will be a multi-sport experience like no other in the area – the first to offer an open-water swim. This is an excellent opportunity for youth to experience a lake swim in a safe, well-monitored course. After the swim, participants will traverse the shaded paths and roads inside the park on the run and bike course. All finishers will receive a finishers medal. The race starts at 7:15 a.m. at the James Island County Park, 871 Riverland Drive, Charleston. Tickets are $45. ccprc.com
OTRANTOCON 2018 is a free event for all ages who love anime, comics, science fiction, fantasy and more. This event features local artists, authors and gaming vendors. At this family-friendly event, come dressed to impress the judges of the cosplay. There will be food; fun, outdoor activities and giveaways while the supplies last. No registration necessary. The events runs from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. at the Otranto Road Regional Library, 2261 Otranto Road, Charleston. ccpl.org
